The 32,184 gross ton B.P. oil tanker BRITISH CAVALIER had to make a full 180° turn in the Firth of Clyde to land a sick crewman.

The ship had left Finnart Oil Terminal in Loch Long after discharging a cargo of crude oil from the Middle East and was on her way out from the Clyde when a crewman was reported to be seriously ill.

The Master turned the 760-feet long ship in the Firth of Clyde off Arran and brought her to Gourock where a Clyde Pilot vessel came alongside the tanker and took the man to Gourock Pier where an ambulance was waiting to take him to Hospital.
