   The Royal Navy E-class Destroyer H.M.S. ESCORT arrived at the French port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz with 56 refugees, including 12 Britons, from Bilbao in Spain.

   The Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939 was raging and the refugees told of about 80 hostages being shot by Government supporters.
