STORMLIGHT 

    On Tuesday 10th March at Prince’s Dock, Glasgow she

had loaded bags of malt for Bruichladdich (for the account

of Bruichladdich Distillery) and then shifted to the nearby

Queen’s Dock where she loaded bunker coal at the coaling

crane.

   STORMLIGHT then left Queen’s Dock for Bruichladdich.

Wednesday 11th was very stormy with heavy seas and

the vessel put into Campbeltown for shelter and remained

there until 1000 on Thursday 12th when she left to

resume her passage around the Mull of Kintyre to

Bruichladdich, arriving late that evening.

   Friday 13th she began discharging at the pier

but had to stop discharging due to the heavy seas.

   Working all day on Saturday 14th she discharged her

cargo, and lay at Bruichladdich overnight and next

morning, Sunday 15th, left for Glenarm (Northern Ireland)

where she would load Limestone Dust for Glasgow.   

 


MOONLIGHT 

   Thursday 12th she had loaded Limestone Dust at

Glenarm (Northern Ireland) and left for Glasgow and

arrived at Queen’s Dock late on Friday 13th.

   Saturday 14th discharged her cargo and she shifted

to the coaling crane and loaded bunker coal.   That night

and the next day, Sunday 15th, she spent in Glasgow.

   Monday 16th MOONLIGHT shifted to the nearby Prince’s

Dock where she loaded bags of malt for the Distillery at

Port Ellen (Isle of Islay) and then left on passage and

arrived on Tuesday 17th and commenced discharging at 1300.

   


SEALIGHT 

   On Friday 13th she was in King George V Dock, Glasgow

and loaded Barley for the Distillery at Port Ellen (Isle of Islay)

and then shifted upriver to Queen’s Dock where she loaded

coal for her bunkers (like most puffer lighters of the time

she was powered by a coal fired steam engine) and then

left for Port Ellen where she arrived on Sunday 15th and

began discharging the next day.

 

 

WARLIGHT 

   In the afternoon of Friday 6th March she was at Troon

  Harbour (Firth of Clyde) and loaded a cargo of coal for

Bruichladdich (Isle of Islay) for the account of Bruichladdich

Distillery Company, and also loaded coal for her bunker

and then left on passage to Bruichladdich.

   Unable to manage in the heavy seas on 7th March

WARLIGHT had to divert to Campbeltown for shelter, and

there she remained until Thursday 12th March.

   At 0900 that morning she left Campbeltown to make

passage to Islay but found it was too difficult and

returned to Campbeltown at 1400.

   Friday 13th March she again left Campbeltown at

0900 but again had to return.  

   Saturday 14th March she left Campbeltown and finally

resumed her passage and arrived at Bruichladdich on

Sunday 15th and commenced discharging on Monday

afternoon.

 

 

POLARLIGHT 

   On Wednesday 11th March she was at Troon Harbour

  (Firth of Clyde) and loaded a cargo of coal for Bellanoch

(on the Crinan Canal) for the account of Colin McPhail

Company and also filled her bunkers with coal and left

on passage to Bellanoch.

   She arrived Thursday 12th March and commenced

discharging, continuing on Friday and finishing on

Saturday 14th March.

   On Sunday 15th she turned around in the canal

and returned to the lock in Ardrishaig and entered

Loch Fyne and made her way to Furnace, a small

township on the Loch to load an 85-ton cargo of

Granite Chips for account of William Sim Company.

 


LIMELIGHT 

   On Friday 13th March she was at Furnace on Loch

Fyne and loaded Crushed Granite for Glasgow for

account of William Sim Company.

   Saturday 14th she discharged her cargo at Custom

House Quay, Glasgow, then shifted to Queen’s Dock to

load coal bunkers and then moved downriver to Greenock

  where, on Sunday 15th she was on a days hire by J & J

Denholm Ltd.

  

STARLIGHT 

   On Tuesday 10th March she was at Rothesay Dock,

Clydebank and loaded a cargo of coal for the Gas Works

at Dunoon.

   At 1300 on 11th she was discharging at Dunoon and,

later, returned to Greenock for coal bunkers.   After

bunkering she returned to Dunoon and on Thursday 12th

completed discharging the coal.    Now empty she returned

to Greenock where from 13th to 16th she had boiler

cleaning and repairs to the ceiling in her hold.

 


SKYLIGHT 

   Friday 13th March she was in Queen’s Dock, Glasgow and

loaded a cargo of coal for the Gas Works in Campbeltown

and left on passage.

   Saturday 14th she sheltered in Rothesay and then left

for Campbeltown arriving on Sunday 15th.

   She discharged her cargo on Monday 16th and

Tuesday 17th and on 17th left on passage to

Furnace (Loch Fyne) where, on 18th, loaded 110-tons

of Crushed Granite for the account of William Sim

Company of Glasgow.
