3 men dead and 18 injured in a fight on British India Line's DWARKA

   Three men died and eighteen others were injured

in a fight aboard the British India Line’s DWARKA,

26 miles off Karachi.

    The ship is now in Karachi Harbour.

    A Line’s spokesman said

 

“ It appears that a fight broke out between some

members of the crew and some unberthed passengers.

    In the fight that ensued three members of the crew

were killed and eighteen others, both from the

crew and passengers were injured.

   DWARKA was on it’s way from Basrah to Karachi

  and was due to leave Karachi later today for Bombay.

   Police have detained the vessel to complete their

investigation and obtain witness statements”


    Harbour Officials state that four Arab passengers have been

detained.   According to reports the fight started when some Arab

passengers tried to use baths which were meant for the crew. 

  Knives were freely used, and two of the knives have been recovered

by the Police.

    One of the crew who died, an Indian, was a cook on the ship.
