SOMERS ISLE was built by Harland and Wolff Belfast yard number 1622 and launched on 9th April 1959 and delivered 10th July 1959 to the Pacific Steam Navigation Company.
She was named after Admiral Sir George Somers who colonized Bermuda in 1609 for Britain. He led the first settlers in 1609 and these islands were first named after him

In 1971 SOMERS ISLE was sold to Cyprus and renamed ELDINA
