The I.C.I. explosives manufacturing factory at Ardeer, Ayrshire, Scotland, was situated near to the Port of Irvine.

The I.C.I. ships which carried the explosives were based at Irvine but, because of the danger when bunkering with fuel oil, the vessels went to the nearby Ardrossan Harbour to load their oil bunkers.

And that is why LADY ROSLIN called at Ardrossan Harbour to bunker with fuel oil.
