Today is a momentous day for Norddeutscher Lloyd (North German Lloyd Line) as they re-enter the passenger and emigrant service in the North Atlantic after an absence of 15 years.

The 17,993 gross tons liner GRIPSHOLM has been bought from Swedish American Line and will leave Bremen for Halifax and New York.

The North German Lloyd and Swedish American Line have agreed to operate a joint passenger service between Scandinavia and Germany to Canada and United States.

It is intended that later this year GRIPSHOLM will be rebuilt and modernised and will be renamed BERLIN.
