The T & J Brocklebank cargo ship MAGDAPUR which was on passage from Chalna (Bangladesh) to Corpus Christi (Texas, USA) – probably with a cargo of jute – left Calcutta on 18 March and, in the early hours of 19 March, struck the Hooghly Bank off Garden Reach and possibly damaged her rudder. MAGDAPUR returned to Calcutta and a diver was engaged to inspect the rudder.
