At 0730 on 18th November the “Gruno” coaster HANS

was arriving at Ardrossan Harbour with a cargo of Limestone

from Carnlough (Northern Ireland).

As HANS passed the lighthouse and breakwater at

the harbour entrance she suffered an engine breakdown.

The master, L Boersma, anchored her off Winton Pier

(the pier where the ferry to Arran sails from) and,

unfortunately, thereby  effectively stopped all arrivals

and sailings at the harbour.

Almost an hour later the engine was repaired and

HANS weighed anchor and proceeded into the harbour,

berthing in Eglinton Dock at 0825.
