64 crewmen transferred from Shaw Savill ship RUNIC aground on Middleton Reef, Australia

Ship's locationMiddleton Reef, AustraliaPort of RegistrySouthampton (England, UK)
Gross Tonnage13,587

Sixty-four men from the crew of the Shaw Savill cargo liner RUNIC which has been aground on Middleton Reef, around 100 miles north of Lord Howe Island, Australia since 19th February, were transferred to ARABIC, another ship belonging to the same Company.

RUNIC had left Brisbane (Australia) for Auckland (New Zealand) and encountered a severe tropical storm which damaged her navigational equipment and she went off course and ran full speed onto the Reef.

A number of attempts were made to refloat the ship but all were unsuccessful and five men have remained aboard to protect the Company’s Salvage Rights.

Note : The ship was unable to be salvaged and was abandoned on the reef and her remains are still there to this day.
