PLAINSMAN arrived at her Glasgow berth at 1415 on 12th March 1962 from Liverpool to load for East African ports. On 15th March from 0806 to 0808 she had an engine trial of slow turn each way. Later that day, 15th March, at 1650, PLAINSMAN departed Glasgow for Birkenhead and East African ports

The Greek ship K HADJIPATERAS tied-up in Prince's Dock at 1645 on 12th March 1962 from Kelvin Dry Dock, Glasgow, to load scrap metal for Japan.

At 0700 on 19th March she shifted Westwards along the dock wall from berth 27 to berth 27/28 Prince's Dock. Her draught forward was 14' 8" and aft 22' 7"

The following afternoon, 20th March, at 1215, she shifted Eastwards along the dock wall to her previous berth 27 Prince's Dock, draught forward being 15' 6" and aft 24 feet.

At 0710 on 21st March when low water at Govan, the ship was sitting on the ground (sitting on the bottom sea-bed of the dock berth) her draught being 24 feet aft and 15' 9" forward.

On 21st March at 1425 she bunkered 125 tons of fuel oil from the harbour oiler INVERTEST

Having completed loading K HADJIPATERAS departed Prince's Dock for Osaka (Japan) with her cargo of 9650 tons of scrap at 1933 on 31st March 1962

Historical information about the ship.

K HADJIPATERAS was built in 1943 by Todd-Houston Shipbuilding Company, Houston, Texas,as a wartime Liberty ship, class EC2-S-C1, and completed in July 1943 as GEORGE C CHILDRESS and served the US Government from 1943 to 1947.
They sold her in 1947 to J & A Hadjipateras, Piraeus, Greece, who renamed her K HADJIPATERAS and employed her worldwide as a general tramp ship.
On 27th July 1967, whilst on a voyage from Calcutta to Rangoon (Burma) with a cargo of coal, she ran aground on a reef at Koronje Island, 35 miles north of Pagoda Point off Bassein, Burma and quickly sank.

At 0555 on 13th March 1962 Blue Funnel's JASON tied-up in Prince's Dock from Sydney via Liverpool.

She was on the ground (sitting on the river-bed at her berth) on the first low water after her arrival, being 3 feet off the quay and draught forward 23' 12 and aft 25' 5"

At 1220 on 17th March JASON cast off from Prince's Dock and shifted downriver for Meadowside Quay, Glasgow (Glasgow's grain berth) to unload her 1649 tons of grain cargo.

SANTONA arrived in berth at Prince's Dock, Glasgow, light-ship from London, at 0925 on 13th March 1962.

At 1200 on 21st March she shifted from Prince's Dock to Number 2 Govan Dry Dock, Glasgow, her draught forward being 7' 10" and 14 feet aft.

On 23rd March at 1334 SANTONA left Number 2 Govan Dry Dock and berthed at berth 12 Prince's Dock at 1350, her draught forward being 8' 3" and aft 13 feet.

Next day, 24th March at 1100 she shifted astern in berth 12, draught 8' 52 forward and 13' 22 aft.

The harbour oiler APEXITY came alongside at 0900 on 6th April and bunkered 120 tons of fuel oil onto SANTONA

At 1645 on 6th April SANTONA shifted ahead by 160 feet, draught forward being 13 feet and aft 15' 11"

Later that day, 6th April, from 1800 to 1820, she conducted engine trials with her stern off the quay, draught forward being 13 feet and aft 15' 11".  

  Immediately after the engine trial, at 1825 on 6th April, SANTONA shifted astern 160 feet, forward draught 13 feet and aft 15' 11"

Having now completed loading, SANTONA departed Glasgow for the Great Lakes at 1605 on 9th April.
