Completed in 1907 by William Doxford Shipyard at Sunderland for Clan Line Steamers, Glasgow

In May 1917 while in the Mediterranean she was attacked by gunfire from a submarine, but escaped

In March 1918 when she was 15 miles off Crete she was torpedoed by a German submarine, three crewmen were lost, and the ship was towed to Suda Bay, Crete.

November 1920 saw her involved in a collision in Flushing Roads, subsequently being beached and thereafter catching fire. As a result she was broken up in Belgium in 1923

Allan Line had VIRGINIAN built by Alex Stephen's Shipyard at Glasgow in 1905 and she served as a Royal Navy Auxiliary Cruiser during World War 1 from 1914 to 1918.

In 1920 Allan Line sold her to Swedish America Line who renamed her DROTTNINGHOLM and she served on their North Atlantic passenger service.

The second World War saw her used as a Red Cross prisoner repatriation ship, and in 1948 Swedish American Line sold her to Home Line who renamed her BRASIL.

Another name change in 1955 to HOMELAND was her last, and she was scrapped in Italy in 1955

Bill McKellar writes : From the excellent Clan Line book :On 9th June 1918 CLAN FORBES was on passage from Newport (south Wales) to Port Said carrying a cargo of coal when she was sunk 115 miles west of Alexandria (Egypt) by the German submarine U-105 and two crewmen were lost.
