BOY SOLDIERS SAVED FROM SEA

Four young soldiers from the Junior Tradesmen?s Regiment at Dundonald Camp were rescued from the sea last Sunday when their two-seater canoes capsized.

The boys, members of the Canoe Club at the camp had taken their canoes to Largs
to try out their prowess with the paddles against the competitors in the Scottish Canoe Organisation?s race round Cumbrae.

They paddled on ahead of the competitors and were out of reach of the safety boat which was on patrol in case of accident to any of the competing canoeists when their canoes overturned in the rough sea.

Fortunately their plight was spotted by a party of fishermen in a launch who picked them up and took them, wrapped in blankets, to the shore.
