Plan For Clyde Hovercraft Service

From "The Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald" newspaper dated 1st January 1965.
A plan for a Hovercraft service on the lochs of the Firth of Clyde has been put before several Town Councils, including those of Ardrossan and Largs, by Highland Engineering Ltd., of Edinburgh.
In their letter to the Councils, the company stated that from 1st June they wished to operate a passenger and freight carrying Hovercraft service in the Clyde area, using a Westland SRN5, which can carry up to 20 persons and up to two tons of freight.
Meeting last week, Ardrossan Town Council decided to refer to the Harbour Company a request that the Council should consider making available landing facilities for what the company described as "this attractive rapid service which will assist in opening up new avenues for commerce and tourism."
