It's said there are two certainties in life.   Death and taxes.

But there is a third certainty, solely for Greenock people.

And that is : whenever a giant Cunard (actually it's Carnival Cruise Line .... but we will ignore that fact) cruise liner is leaving the cruise pontoon at Greenock Ocean Terminal the people of Greenock flock in their many thousands to the entire length of the magnificent Esplanade to watch the farewell.

And this lovely calm and warm evening brought a vast crowd of spectators, all seemingly armed with mobile phones, cameras and even drones, to record the happy scene when QUEEN ANNE made her spectacular departure.

The usual walkers and joggers normally have the wide footpath to themselves.   Not this evening.  Thousands of happy and excited people, too many to count adorned with camera tripods, as far as you could see.   Eyes glued to the water.  Waiting for the big event, for the show to begin.

And then, it's Showtime.

Six p.m. and QUEEN ANNE let go her mooring ropes and slowly and stately left her berth.

Many spectators were disappointed that she did not give a farewell blast on her horn, but such is life.

And others at a part of the Esplanade were more than a little upset.

A man on a jet ski, seemingly intent in showing off to the vast audience on the Esplanade, kept zooming and circling up and down noisely while the liner was passing and thereby destroyed many planned photographs and videos by obscuring the liner by the jet-ski waterspout and roaring of his engine.
