   A fire broke out in number 1 hold of the Burns & Laird coastal cargo ship LAIRDSGLEN while she was at Dublin and loading cargo for Glasgow.  

   The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished and some cargo was damaged but the vessel herself was not thought to have been damaged.   The damaged cargo was discharged back to the dockside.

   The Prince Line of London’s cargo ship JAVANESE PRINCE arrived at Singapore Roads on March 16 after drifting for some days in the South China Sea with an engine breakdown.

   Royal Australian Navy’s H.M.A.S. QUICKMATCH, a Q-class Destroyer, was tasked to go to JAVANESE PRINCE and give any necessary assistance but was recalled before arrival when the cargo ship signalled that engineers had repaired the engines.
