She was built in Ardrossan in 1944 by Ardrossan shipyard, a twin screw 13 knot passenger and cargo vessel for the Glasgow owners Burns & Laird Line, and was primarily employed on the Glasgow to Londonderry service, though later worked on the Glasgow to Dublin route.
Her dimensions were 263 feet length, 41 feet breadth and 13' 6" draft.
In 1969 she was sold to Israeli owners, and on 16th November 1969 she was attacked by Arab frogmen and beached near Eilat.
She was repaired and returned to service, but on 7th September 1970 she ran aground in the gulf of Aquaba, and was a total loss.

On 27th July 2010, Colin Campbell e-mailed the following very interesting information on "Lairds Loch" :
Your photograph "Ardrossan Shipyard from the air" shows the Burns & Laird Lines vessel LAIRDS LOCH. She was built at Ardrossan in 1944 as a cargo vessel and in 1946 had passenger accommodation added. Long associated with the Glasgow/Londonderry service each year, she returned to her builders and was altered to carry ,passengers only, for the summer months .Leaving Glasgow Monday,Wednesday and Friday returning Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday, with additonal sailings to/from Greenock at the Glasgow fairtime.Im afraid she wasnt held in very high esteem by the travelling public as she had very few berths and most passengers had very basic seating spread along the main deck. With a 12hour trip round the north of Ireland one can understand her being hosed down after each trip.Withdrawn from Londonderry service in 1966 she was sold in 1969 to an Israeli firm for a service Eilat/Sharm el Sheik. In 1969 she was attacked by Egyptian frogmen and beached near Eilat.and on 3/9/70 wrecked and abandoned as a constructive total loss. Her israeli name was HEY DAROMA
