This ship, an ocean-going tanker, was built in 1952 (launched 14th May 1952) by Furness Shipyard at Haverton Hill, Billingham, Stockton-on-Tees, (Teesside), England, and completed in August of that year. Her name on launching was "Duchess of Athens," and flew the British flag.
