Jan de Jonge (Jan Hendrick), Melbourne, Australia, advises :
She was built in 1949 by Coops Bros. in Hoogezand in Holland for Wagenborg, Delfzijl (pronounced Delf-zell).
Sold in 1950 but remained under Wagenborg management. No name change.
In 1960 she was sold to Boersma Shipping and renamed Grietje.
In February 1963, during one of the worst winters in Europe ever, she was wrecked on the coast of the Isle of Man, near Douglas, and all of the crew were saved.
The name Grietje originates from Margriet, or, in English, Margaret.
The short form of Margriet is Griet, and, in Dutch, names ending in ...JE or TJE have the meaning of little or small.
So Grietje would be little Griet, and in the northern part of Holland, Grietje, as such, is a very common, old fashioned, name. And you pronounce "ie" as "ee."
