      Ardrossan Harbour tug SEAWAY (Master Neil Mealey) met Houlder Brothers tanker CLUTHA RIVER (Master E. C. Turner) at the roadstead off Ardrossan Harbour at 1030 on 6th February and attached to the bow of the tanker.

   At the same time the Steel & Bennie tug THUNDERER (Master T Slater) which had been waiting at the Harbour, also arrived at the roadstead and attached to the stern of CLUTHA RIVER, and both tugs commenced towing the tanker bow-first from the roadstead and through the 300-feet wide harbour entrance to the tanker berth at Ardrossan Harbour, and CLUTHA RIVER arrived in the berth at 1100.

   The tanker was carrying crude oil from Puerto Miranda (Venezuela) via Stanlow (on the Manchester Ship Canal) and had a draught of 21 feet.   Her agent in Ardrossan was T.L. Duff at their office in Montgomerie Street, Ardrossan.   CLUTHA RIVER pumped her cargo through the land pipes to the adjacent Shell Refinery at North Crescent Road, Ardrossan.

   On completing discharge, CLUTHA RIVER left the harbour at 1155 on 7th February, again assisted by the tugs SEAWAY and THUNDERER,  light-ship and draught 20' 9" for Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles in the Caribbean Sea.
