   Everard’s coaster SINGULARITY was in ballast

and on passage from Limerick (Ireland) to Berry Head

(near Torbay, Devon, England) when near Fastnet

she suffered a piston defect in her engine.

   The Master decided to make for the nearest port for

repairs and the vessel arrived at Cobh (County Cork, Ireland)

at 0300.

In gale-force conditions the 9,506 gross ton cargo ship BORNEO

of  N.V. Stoomvaart Maatschappij “Nederland” of Amsterdam

went ashore on the coast near Hansweert, Zeeland and radioed for tug assistance.

   However BORNEO later signalled that she was out of danger

and did not require assistance of tugs.
