Hunter's Quay Pier closed |
||||||||||||||||||
Hunter's Quay pier, at the mouth of the Holy Loch on the Firth of Clyde, closes from today, thus severing a link with Clyde steamers that has existed for more than a century. Mr. Peel, owner for the past 11 years, pointed out that under the winter timetable, operative from today, it was proposed to make only one call a day at Hunter's Quay. "Bearing in mind the heavy cost of parts and maintenance it is just not economic to keep it open for one boat a day," Mr. Peel said. "I notified British Railways at the weekend" Under the summer timetable there were eight calls a day at Hunter's Quay. The Caledonian Steam Packet Company wish to eliminate the Holy Loch service altogether, but the result of a public inquiry into the proposed steamer cuts, held in July, have not yet been announced. |
