CARINTHIA (1955-1968 Passenger / cargo liner 608 feet long of Cunard Line, Liverpool) Own Page

Cunard liner CARINTHIA is slightly delayed in starting the 1966 Clyde - St. Lawrence Season

Ship's locationTail-of-the-Bank anchorage off Greenock (Firth of Clyde, Scotland, UK)Port of RegistryLiverpool (England, UK)
Arrived fromLiverpool (England)Gross Tonnage21,947
Sailing forQuebec and Montreal (Canada)

The start of the 1966 Clyde – St. Lawrence passenger liner season was slightly delayed when the Cunard liner CARINTHIA arrived at the Tail-of-the-Bank, Greenock eight hours later than expected.   The severe storms which had been sweeping the country and the accompanying high winds had caused the ship to be delayed in leaving Liverpool.

About 150 people were waiting at Princes Pier, Greenock to embark on the ship, and Cunard staff quickly arranged for coaches to take them to the nearby towns of Largs and Kilmacolm for lunch at hotels.

Cunard and Canadian Pacific liners are to make around 70 calls at Greenock this season taking passengers to Quebec and Montreal.

When everyone was embarked, CARINTHIA heaved up her anchor and, only now four hours behind schedule, left Greenock and the Clyde to cross the North Atlantic Ocean to Canada.
