Woman passenger from Bank Line's cargo ship ROSEBANK is killed by a terrorist grenade at Aden

Ship's locationAden (Yemen - a port at the southern entrance to the Red Sea)Port of RegistryGlasgow (UK)
Gross Tonnage8,694

A British woman passenger from the Bank Line cargo ship ROSEBANK was killed by a grenade at Aden.

The ship was bunkering with fuel oil at the buoys in Aden Harbour and the woman and her husband and a number of other Britons from the vessel had gone ashore and were standing outside a restaurant when a terrorist threw a grenade at them.

The woman was killed and her husband and three others from her party were injured.   A number of Arabs in the vicinity were also injured in the explosion and the killer immediately ran off.

British Army personnel were quickly at the scene and the injured Britons were taken to the Army Hospital for treatment.

An Official at Aden, which is a British Protectorate, stressed that passengers and crews from ships should not go ashore as terrorists had murdered six people in the previous two weeks.
