Woman taken to hospital after falling from ferry GETTY IMAGES
The MV Isle of Arran was travelling between Brodick and Ardrossan A woman was rescued from the Firth of Clyde on Monday night after she fell from a CalMac ferry. The MV Isle of Arran was travelling from Brodick to Ardrossan. The alarm was raised just before 20:30 as the ferry was approaching Ardrossan and the crew launched their rescue boat. The passenger was pulled from the sea and returned to the ferry. When it docked at Ardrossan harbour, an ambulance took her to Crosshouse Hospital. Her current condition is unknown. CalMac said an investigation will take place into the circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch. Craig Ramsay, fleet management director at CalMac, said: “As the Isle of Arran approached Ardrossan, a passenger entered the water and was quickly recovered using the vessel’s rescue craft, following the emergency procedures regularly exercised by crew. "An investigation into the circumstances will now follow, in line with our protocol in this situation. "I would like to thank all colleagues and the emergency services for their fast response.” |
