Miracles can sometimes happen.   One occurred on 9 January 2023 in Glasgow.

The weather that morning was horrendous, not exactly suitable for taking a photograph of a ship.

I happened to be in the enclosed Braehead Shopping Centre, beside the River Clyde.  Outside it was very overcast, low dark grey clouds, heavy and persistent rain, blustery southerly wind and very cold.   The streets were awash with deep puddles and vehicles and buses were splashing up sheets of water as they drove past.    Visibility was sometimes only 50 metres or so.

Of course I knew that the ship TAAGBORG was due to pass Braehead.   A.I.S. showed that she was 5 minutes away.   But it would be nonsensical to go outside in that weather.

But I looked out of the side door.   Still pouring down.   As I turned away something mysteriously meteorological happened.   The rain slackened then stopped.   The wind dropped to a moderate breeze, bright sunshine appeared with clear visibility.

Avoiding the deep puddles I went to the boardwalk at the River and took photographs of TAAGBORG as she passed, and also images of the semi-submersible barge CD01 a short distance away at Elderslie Wall.

Walking back to the Shopping Centre the heavy rain started again.   It was incredible to have that 10 minutes respite to take the photographs.

Good Evening

My father drove/piloted M.V Dunglass on the Clyde from the age 16 to 18 when he enlisted for WW2. 1943-1945. I was wondering if anyone had a photo of it or knew what became of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated and happy for my message to appear.

Sincerely

Helen Duggan

January 2023    Willie McMahon replies

DUNGLASS may have been built by Hugh McLean & Sons  Ltd., Boatbuilders at their yard in Renfrew.   The business is long gone.  Don’t know where any records or archives will be in case any photos may have been taken.
