From "The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald" 8th June 1962

HMS EXMOUTH

4000 PEOPLE VISIT FRIGATE

Four thousand people visited the frigate HMS Exmouth on Sunday afternoon when, in the course of an operational visit to Ardrossan, she was open to the public.
Lieut.-Commander P. Troubridge, RN., her captain, and two officers called on Monday morning at the Burgh Chambers where they met Provost Wm. Currie, Baillie J. McManus and Mr. W. M. N. McDermont, Town Clerk, who accompanied them back on board for cocktails.
Later that day, members of Ardrossan Town Council and their wives, representatives of Ardrossan Harbour Company, and representatives of Ardrossan Academicals Rugby Football Club were guests at a cocktail party on board ship.
Entertainment arranged for the ship's personnel included a cricket match, in which the navymen triumphed, on Sunday, a football match which the visitors won 4-2 at Winton Park on Monday evening, and a dance later that night in the Eglinton Arms Hotel.
The frigate, which arrived at Ardrossan last Saturday night, left the burgh on Tuesday morning.
