Explosive detonators stolen from Ardrossan Harbour

Hugh Wilson writes

From Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald 10th November 1972

DETONATORS DISAPPEAR

After the disappearance of detonators from Ardrossan Harbour at the weekend police patrols toured the area warning the public to contact them if any were discovered.

On Monday railway workers at the rail sidings at the harbour reported that three tin canisters, each containing 12 detonators had been stolen from shunting engines.   Police scoured the vicinity but found no trace of the detonators.

The detonators are 1 foot long by 3 inches in diameter, green coloured and have "Certy Single CP Ltd" inscribed on them.

On Tuesday an anonymous telephone caller informed Saltcoats Poilce that detonators were lying in an Ardrossan field but it was found to be a hoax call.
