Police chase a rowing boat off Gourock, Firth of Clyde

Police in a cabin cruiser intercepted a rowing boat after a chase in the Firth of Clyde and took the occupant into custody.

Gourock Police got a call from the owner of a launch at Cardwell Bay, Gourock, who found a man on board his boat.   Also on board was some property, including an outboard motor, which did not belong to the owner.

By the time Police arrived a rowing boat had left the Bay and seemed to be making for the other side of the Firth.   A Police Sergeant and a Constable sought the aid of the owner of a cabin cruiser and made after the rowing boat which they intercepted three miles away near the U.S. Navy depot ship U.S.S. VULCAN, anchored off Greenock.

A man will appear at Greenock Police Court.
