Royal Navy torpedo discovered in beach bathing pond at Saltcoats (Firth of Clyde) |
||
A minor Royal Navy operation took place in Saltcoats (a town beside Ardrossan) when a torpedo was discovered in the town’s open-air beach bathing pond. A postman on his delivery spotted the torpedo and immediately notified Saltcoats Police. The Police waited at the bathing pond for several hours until mid-day when a Naval recovery vessel arrived from Faslane in the Gare Loch (Firth of Clyde) and quickly took away the missile which was not dangerous. It is believed that the torpedo had gone astray from recent Navy practice manoeuvres off the coast. |
