Royal Navy Destroyer H.M.S.DECOY steams to assist an SOS call from British ship KINROSS

 The Royal Navy Destroyer H.M.S. DECOY is reported to have left Gibraltar and steaming at full speed to answer an SOS radio message from the British Hong Kong registered merchant ship KINROSS in the Mediterraean.

    An SOS message had been broadcast from KINROSS stating that the Master needed immediate assistance as he feared for the safety of himself and the other British officers aboard, due to unrest among the Chinese crew.

    H.M.S. DECOY is a Daring-class Destroyer built by Yarrow & Company, Scotstoun, Glasgow and commissioned in 1953 and is capable of steaming at 32 knots.   KINROSS is a 5,386 gross ton general cargo ship registered in Hong Kong and was originally the Hain Steamship Company’s TRELISSICK and  sold to her present owners in 1963.
