Princess Margaret and her husband Lord Snowdon of the British Royal Family were on an official visit to the British Colony of Hong Kong when an unhappy incident occurred involving the Russian Cruise Liner M. URITZKY. The 4,870 gross ton Russian ship, of the Mikhail Kalinin class, had arrived today with about 270 Japanese tourist passengers and the eager passengers quickly landed to explore the city. However, due to the strict security precautions in force to protect the Royal couple the Hong Kong Police would not allow any of the 155 Russian crew of the ship to go ashore, and they were required to remain on board the vessel. Captain Nikolai Amorosov on the M. URITZKY said that this was the first time that a Russian cruise liner had called at Hong Kong and he could not understand why his crew were prevented from going ashore and he had sent a strongly worded cable to London protesting against the ban. The Princess visited shops in Kowloon and a Hospital and also went to City Hall where she formally opened British week, a trade promotion which exhibited the best of British goods and exports. Note : We welcome any details or information on this vessel.
