The new 54,611 tons deadweight oil tanker BRITISH GUARDSMAN built by the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Govan, Glasgow, is going into drydock today at Falmouth in England as part of her final check before being delivered to her owners, British Petroleum Company of London.

The ship is 760 feet long and has a breadth of 97 feet and is too large to fit into any drydock in the Clyde and had to go to Falmouth for drydocking.   The new Inchgreen Graving Dock at Port Glasgow will soon be completed and will be able to accommodate all the large vessels being built on Clydeside.

BRITISH GUARDSMAN is expected to return to the Clyde in three or four days time and on Monday is scheduled to undertake her speed trials over the Arran Measured Mile off the Island villages of Corrie and Sannox
