Tug CHIEFTAIN assists at stern to dock Kloster's Tanker VESTVARD at Ardrossan Harbour

   About 1430 Ardrossan tug SEAWAY and Steel

 & Bennie tug CHIEFTAIN (Master D McLaughlin)

 met the Norwegian tanker VESTVARD at the Roadstead,

about 2 miles off Ardrossan Harbour and connected their towlines, SEAWAY at the tanker’s bow and CHIEFTAIN

at the tanker’s stern.

   Both tugs then towed VESTVARD from the

Roadstead and through the Harbour entrance and

berthed her at berth 12 Ocean Tanker Berth, where

 she would discharge her cargo of Fuel Oil through

pipelines to the nearby Shell Oil Refinery at

North Crescent Road, Ardrossan.

   On being released by the Pilot at 1525, tug SEAWAY

returned to her berth in Ardrossan and CHIEFTAIN

left Ardrossan to return the 30 miles to her base

at Greenock.
