About 1840 on 13 July 2020 the container ship MSC MANYA arrives at Greenock Container Terminal from Portbury, England. She was assisted by tugs SVITZER MILFORD and AYTON CROSS who met her off Whiteforeland Point and then turned her to port off Greenock Esplanade and then backed her to berth port-side to the berth. It was a heavily overcast afternoon, with occasional light rain, and the weak, watery sun broke through just in time to illuminate the ship, and MSC MANYA had to wait off the terminal for around 40 minutes for the Netherlands registered container ship ENCOUNTER to leave the berth.

2 and 3. MSC MANYA arrives off Whiteforeland Point. She was having to wait about 40 minutes for Netherlands container ship ENCOUNTER to leave the berth. ENCOUNTER was delayed in discharging her last 12 or so boxes because of a problem with the crane.
4 to 14. Tug AYTON CROSS joins them off Greenock Esplanade.
15. Netherlands container ship ENCOUNTER has now left the Container Terminal and, outward bound to Bilbao (Spain), passes MANYA.
16 and 17. Tug SVITZER MILFORD is now attached to the stern of MANYA, and AYTON CROSS moves to the starboard side of the ship.
18, 19 and 20. Both tugs begin canting (turning) MSC MANYA to port (= left) to position her to come astern to the berth.
21 and 22. MANYA approaches the terminal, being towed astern by MILFORD and pushed onto the berth by AYTON CROSS. |
