Ardrossan Harbour now has automatic telephone exchange

The Post Office Engineering Department have completed the installation of the latest type of private automatic branch exchange at Ardrossan Harbour.

Incoming calls will be dealt with by the switchboard operator as in the past, but all interdepartmental calls can be dialled by the extensions without coming on to the switchboard.

It was explained that one of the main benefits of this arrangement is that a 24-hour service is now available to every department, both internally and to the public exchange, thus increasing the efficiency of the Port organisation.
