James Dunlop, Foreman Carpenter, retires from Ardrossan Shipyard |

From "The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald" dated 18th January 1963 By "Puffer" Mr. James Dunlop, foreman carpenter at Ardrossan shipyard for many years, is retiring at the end of this month. Jimmy, in his younger days, was a promising sprinter, and was one of the first lads to win the Harry Kemp Gold Medal for the hundred yards sprint at Ardrossan Dockyard sports.
Jimmy, however, was best known as a singer, and, when working as a carpenter on liners sailing to America and Canada he was often asked to take part in ship's concerts.
Jimmy is a devoted church-man and has sung in many churches throughout Ayrshire. He has also appeared in charity shows in many towns.
