From the Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald dated Friday 9th October 1964

When, on Thursday of last week, a diesel train was derailed under the footbridge at the entrance to Ardrossan Dockyard and blocked the line for seven hours, the Burns Laird cargo ship "Ulster Sportsman" had to be moved from Eglinton basin into the dock.
A British Railways official explained that the delay was caused partly because of difficulty in getting the jib of the mobile crane under the bridge.
