Monday evening about 24.00 hrs
Hugh Alillar and Walter Jamieson left Ardrossan for West Kilbride, the place of their residence.
When, owing to the darkness of the night, they went off the road at the bottom end of Glasgow Street Ardrossan, and both were precipitated into the free-stone quarry.
A depth of 30ft, with about 10ft of water at the bottom.
Hugh Alillar was much bruised by the fall but managed to swim to the other side and got out.
But Walter Jamieson had fallen on his head, sunk in the water and was drowned, his body was found the next morning
They had arrived that day with the Sloop "Two Brothers" of Glasgow, from Loch Striven with a cargo of Charcoal
