Modernisation at Ailsa Shipyard, Troon

MODERNISATION AT TROON SHIPYARD

The Ailsa Shipbuilding Company Limited, Troon, has been given authority to go ahead with another phase of their ? 1/2 million modernisation scheme for the shipyard.
On Monday, Troon Dean of Guild Court granted permision to the firm to build new plating shops at an estimated cost of ?70,000.

Work is expected to start in the spring and continue throughout the summer months.

The new shops will be equipped with modern plant and travelling over-head cranes capable of handling units from 5 to 15 tons.

Plans are also in hand for demolishing the plumbers, tin-smiths and coppersmiths shops, and for their re-building and re-equipment on a site adjacent to the new fittng out berth.

Last month the firm opened a new administrative block.
