From "Ayrshire Post" dated Friday 13th January 1961 MODERNISATION AT TROON SHIPYARD The Ailsa Shipbuilding Company Limited, Troon, has been given authority to go ahead with another phase of their ? 1/2 million modernisation scheme for the shipyard.
Work is expected to start in the spring and continue throughout the summer months. The new shops will be equipped with modern plant and travelling over-head cranes capable of handling units from 5 to 15 tons. Plans are also in hand for demolishing the plumbers, tin-smiths and coppersmiths shops, and for their re-building and re-equipment on a site adjacent to the new fittng out berth. Last month the firm opened a new administrative block. |
