Ardrossan Harbour 1947

From: Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald dated 23rd June 1972

ARDROSSAN HARBOUR 1947

25 YEARS

FRIDAY JUNE 27 1947

Ardrossan Harbour Company organised a quiz for schoolchildren in connection with Ardrossan centenary celebrations and the questions involved the location of 26 ports and the products there from landed at Ardrossan. 369 boys and girls entered but nobody answered all questions correctly.

The dockyard at Ardrossan is busy with three conversion jobs on former naval vessels being adapted for civilian purposes but shortage of steel is holding up the work.

"Speedon" leaves Ardrossan and heads for Australia

From "The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald" dated Friday 11th July 1947

The "Speedy," which changed her name to "Speedon" did not seem in any hurry to "speed off."
After a prolonged series of delays, however, her journey from Ardrossan to Australia was entered upon on Monday last.

Ardrossan Port Report dated 11th July 1947

From ?The Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald? dated 11th July 1947

Ardrossan Harbour was much quieter in mid-week, as few cargo vessels were in, but the passenger steamers are very busy, including the Belfast, Arran and Isle of Man boats.

The Dockyard also have few repair jobs at present, but between the number of boats in the repair basin and new work the place is quite busy and a large number of men employed.

Mr Oluf Olufsen of Ardrossan, and his model of the ship "Ardel"

From ?The Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald? dated 11th July 1947

Mr. Oluf Olufsen, a Dane, has made his home in Ardrossan for many years, and while at sea makes models of ships. His latest is a model of the ?Ardel,? which is a fine bit of work.
He also makes model yachts, many of which have been seen at the Saltcoats pond. But his model of the ?Ardel? is his best effort in my opinion. The blocks are carved out of bone.
