Burns & Laird switch their shipments of steel from Greenock to Ardrossan

From the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald dated Friday 13th March, 1964

SHIPMENTS OF STEEL

Switch from Greenock to Ardrossan

Burns and Laird Lines Ltd. intend to switch the Belfast iron and steel shipments from Greenock to Ardrossan. And they will close their Greenock office.

Mr N.C.B. Wright, general manager of Burns and Laird lines stated last week-end that the decision had been made by the parent company Coast Lines Group, who had been reviewing a large number of their services.
"They have" he added, "been pruning services and concentrating on certain ports."

A spokesman for Ardrossan Harbour Company told the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald that "It may be a couple of months before the switch is made. We have," he said, "carried a certain amount of steel traffic for Belfast, and in recent months we have been shipping steel from the north-east of England, also to Belfast."
