Man lost overboard from British Railways car ferry ANTRIM PRINCESS on voyage from Stranraer

Ship's locationOff Corsewall Point, Loch Ryan (near Stranraer, South Scotland)Port of RegistryStranraer (Scotland)

A man was lost overboard from the British Railways car ferry ANTRIM PRINCESS on a voyage from Stranraer to Larne on Saturday.

The ship, and the car ferry STENA NORDICA, returning from Larne, searched the area unsuccessfully for an hour after passengers in the ANTRIM PRINCESS reported they had seen the man go overboard off Corsewall Point, outside Loch Ryan, soon after the ship, which had earlier been delayed for 45 minutes by bad weather, left Stranraer Harbour.

When the two car ferries continued their voyage other ships in the area, including Royal Navy ships stationed nearby, continued the search without success.

Stranraer Police said last night that a man had been reported missing from the ship, and that inquiries to establish his identity were continuing.
