A dog jumped into the water at Ardrossan Harbour

From "The Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald" dated Friday 29th July 1960.

Last week when an Ardrossan man went for a walk to the harbour, a large brown dog followed him for sweets.
A passenger going on board a steamer gave the dog a tit-bit, and the animal followed him on to the boat.
As the steamer was about to leave, the dog jumped into the water.
A crowd on the quayside watched the animal as it swam towards the breakwater.
The Ardrossan man whom the dog had followed to the harbour shouted to the animal and at the same time held up a box of sweets.
By doing so he guided the dog to the vicinity of the Shell Refinery, where it came ashore none the worse for its experience.
