Tug SEAWAY at the bow and the tug STRONGBOW at the stern assist the Shell tanker KOSSMATELLA bow-first from the roadstead into the tanker berth at Ardrossan Harbour. The tanker would pump her cargo of petrol and gas oil through the land pipelines to the nearby Shell Refinery at North Crescent Road, Ardrossan KOSSMATELLA departed from Ardrossan for Belfast on 8th February. KOSSMATELLA was built by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson at Newcastle (England) in 1953 as HELIX for Shell Tankers U.K. as one of their large fleet of "H"-class oil tankers. She was 555'8" long x 69'5" breadth x 29'9ΒΌ" draft
Both as HELIX and KOSSMATELLA she made many calls at Ardrossan Harbour She was sold for demolition in 1972 and was delivered to shipbreakers on 26th May 1972 at Hsin Kang (China) for scrap. |
