American Ship Still Aground At Ardrossan

An attempt my be made within the next few days to refloat the American cargo ship "Harry R Jones" (5265 tons gross) which went aground at the Inches, Ardrossan, on Thursday morning of last week.
The tide will be at its highest this month on Monday first, and indications are that the vessel might be freed although one drawback is that she has been holed by the rocks on which her bows rest.
The "Harry R Jones" went aground when she broke free while being towed by two Greenock tugs from Glasgow to Troon to be broken up by the West of Scotland Shipbreaking Company Limited.

First reports were that ten men were on board, but later it was confirmed that thirteen men - eleven riggers and two fitters - were on the ship.
The men spent last Thursday night aboard the vessel, but, when an attempt to refloat her was abandoned the following day, Troon lifeboat, which was standing by, took most of the men off.

The "Harry R Jones," which was built in 1903 for cargo trade on the Great Lakes, has had her rudder and propeller removed, although the engines are still aboard.

During the past week she has probably attracted more attention from the public than ever before in her long life of trading.
Since she went aground she has been lying almost parallel with Inches Road, her bows only about fifty yards from the Coastguard Station.
