An 11-feet long plywood and canvas canoe was found drifting in the Clyde near to the Skelmorlie Buoy off Wemyss Bay by the Admiralty Mooring Vessel H.M.S. MOORLAND. There was no sign of any person and no oars were aboard, and the canoe was taken aboard H.M.S. MOORLAND and taken to the Admiralty Mooring Base at Greenock

Norwegian tanker "Aino" grounds off Montgomerie Pier, Ardrossan Harbour |

From "Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald" dated 2nd July 1948 TANKER GROUNDED AND REFLOATED While in the process of being berthed at Ardrossan Harbour last Friday afternoon, the Norwegian tanker "AINO," with two tugs in attendance, grounded a short distance off Montgomerie Pier. Attempts to refloat the vessel were at first unsuccessful, but, with the rising tide and after 250 tons of her cargo had been discharged into a lighter, she was floated again about 2 o'clock on Saturday morning, and proceeded alongside the wharf. The Aino was carrying a cargo of 9000 tons of fuel oil from Aruba. |

From "Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald" dated 2nd July 1948 By "Puffer" Mr. John C. Coleman, Managing Director of Ardrossan Dockyard Ltd., informs me that the Portuguese ship "Zambezia" will be launched on Tuesday first at 1.30 pm. About eighty guests will be present, including many who will travel from Portugal, and officers of the Portuguese Navy at present in Glasgow on business. The "Zambezia," a cargo and passenger ship, is one of the largest to be launched from that yard.

From "The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald" dated 16th July 1948 NEW PASSENGER SERVICE Between Ardrossan, Arran and Campbeltown The full particulars are published in our advertising columns of a new passenger service between Ardrossan and Arran and Campbeltown. Commencing on 21st July till 31st July inclusive the twin screw motor vessel "Wimaisia", belonging to the Mac Shipping Company Limited, Glasgow, will sail daily (including Sundays) to Lochranza and Campbeltown, returning the same day. From 1st August till 6th September the service will be between Ardrossan and Whiting Bay and Campbeltown.
