From "The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald" dated Friday 25th August 1972
Seismic tests in bay
For the next six weeks shock-wave trials will be held by the Clyde Port Authority between Campbell Rock, off Ardrossan, and Lady Island Light, off Troon.
These tests will involve setting off explosions from the mv "Garnock" along a submerged line. The charges will be up to a maximum of one pound.
Mariners, and others boating in this area during the next six weeks, are warned by the authority that they should stay at least 1000 yards away from the "Garnock."
The trials will be carried out about two hours before high water and will last about four hours. The trials began yesterday (Thursday).
The tests are being carried out by ICI as normal research into the performance of their seismic products and are unlikely to cause any disturbance.
A number of heavy vibrations experienced in the Ardrossan area yesterday (Thursday) may have been the result of the tests but an ICI spokesman expressed surprise if they had had such an effect. |
