Explosive detonators stolen from Ardrossan Harbour

Hugh Wilson writes

From Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald 10th November 1972

DETONATORS DISAPPEAR

After the disappearance of detonators from Ardrossan Harbour at the weekend police patrols toured the area warning the public to contact them if any were discovered.

On Monday railway workers at the rail sidings at the harbour reported that three tin canisters, each containing 12 detonators had been stolen from shunting engines.   Police scoured the vicinity but found no trace of the detonators.

The detonators are 1 foot long by 3 inches in diameter, green coloured and have "Certy Single CP Ltd" inscribed on them.

On Tuesday an anonymous telephone caller informed Saltcoats Poilce that detonators were lying in an Ardrossan field but it was found to be a hoax call.

Plans for Old Harbour at Brodick

From "The Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald" dated Friday 17th November 1972

PLANS FOR OLD HARBOUR AT BRODICK

At their meeting last week, Arran District Council considered a letter from the Scottish Development Department indicating that the proposed environmental improvement scheme at the Old Harbour, Brodick, might well qualify for grant aid, subject to availability of funds.

A request by the department for a more detailed description of the works proposed, along with a breakdown of costs, was considered along with a letter, remitted from the Arran Planning Sub-committee, from the Clyde Tourist Association indicating that the Scottish Tourist Board might consider a grant for the scheme for the provision of a ramp in the vicinity of Brodick Pier for the launching of small boats and requesting details and cost..

The clerk indicated that Mr. Laird, architect, Brodick, was prepared to draw up and cost a suitable scheme and it was unanimously agreed that the ad hoc committee of Mr. McNiven, Mr. Fulton, Mr. Gilmore, Mrs. Sillars and other local interested persons should meet with Mr. Laird with a view to drawing up a suitable scheme.
