The lighthouse pictured is the third on this point. The first was a wooden structure built in 1859 and replaced by the second in 1867. The present lighthouse was built of reinforced concrete in 1909. The unusual design is a 16 sided tower, 108 feet tall and supported by 8 flying buttresses. The original third order Fresnel lens provided four white flashes every 7.5 seconds. Electrified in 1940 and automated in 1988. The lighthouse was officially inactivated in 1975, but relit in 2004 as a non-official light.

The steel tower in the background served as the lighthouse after the 1975 inactivation, but that too is now inactivated.
